Elisabeth Kübler Ross in her book... On Death and Dying describes five stages that are experienced, or the processes by which people deal with grief and tragedy. The book focussed on those diagnosed with a terminal illness or catastrophic loss. Later, the stages were applied to any loss. The stages are...
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
The stages can be very helpful in self awareness, if you are in the grieving process. Just to know that what you are experiencing is a 'normal'part of grief, can be very reassuring. Dr Kübler-Ross said that these stages do not necessarily come in the order above, or are all steps experienced by all people, though she wrote that a person will always experience at least two of the stages. People will often experience several stages in a "roller coaster" effect - switching between two or more stages, returning to one or more several times before working through it
At Frangipani House we offer traditional grief counselling sessions as well as art therapy style sessions.
